9: 00 from Porto Novo harbour
Day 1(Hike: 3 hours - level 2-3)
Our driver will meet us in the small harbour of Porto Novo. Then we take the old road to reach a peak with an incredible panoramic view: the starting point of our hike, during which we explore an incredible green, fertile yet untamed valley. The driver waits for us at the other end - and we're off to rest in our little hotel, a piece of heaven hanging on the side of a steep mountain slope. Today's hike gave us a foretaste of the country, and a delicious dinner will introduce us to the Cape Verdean gastronomy.
Day 2(Hike: 4 hours - level 2-3)
We leave our guesthouse in the morning, bent on the quest of the valley of Paúl. It might include rambling through green sceneries, passing by numerous smiling inhabitants and identifying tropical plants. An invigorating picnic lunch among sugar canes inspires us to be on the lookout for dragon trees: a few specimens are found on Santo Antão and on São Nicolau.
Day 3
Free day in Paúl, in the valley of thousand hikes. Little by little, we notice the strong links that the island of Santo Antão has forged with us - by smiling to the locals, greeting back, drinking in the mango and sugar cane fragrances in the air, by setting ourselves to the pace of a generous and peaceful valley - we understand how the island's relaxed way of life could entrance so many of us.
