Day 1
Arrival at São Vicente airport and inhalation of our first puffs of Capeverdean air. And here we are, acclimatised on no time. Transfer to Mindelo, the cultural capital of Cape Verde, the ancient Rome of the atlantic where life sparkles in the rythm of the concerts. Day 2 Santo Antão - Hike 3 hours // level 1-2
After a ferry crossing we will start our discovery of Santo Antão by taking the old trading route that crosses the island and along which one panorama view follows the other. Our driver will drop us off on the highest point and we will discover the landscape by foot. Having looked down into two valleys we will continue by car until our home for the night in a family-run pension. Fantastic place with a fantastic dinner. Day 3 Hike 4 hours // level 2-3 // +500/-500 m
Let us not miss a second of this wonderful day - we give an early start to one of the most spectacular hikes of Cape Verde: the one along the coast. We are accompanied to the right by the base of steep, if not vertical cliffs, while we are bordered to the left by the endlessness of the Atlantic Ocean. Small paths used by shepherds lead us through exceptional landscapes, each curve revealing new surprises. Night in Ponta do Sol at Kasa Tambla or similar (B/LB/D)

Day 4 Hike 3 hours // level 2-3 // +400/-400 m
Today, we have a much closer encounter with the greenest and most tropical valley amongst the whole archipelago, the beautiful valley of Paúl. A good catchupa (the national dish) served in a little restaurant in the middle of sugar cane fields will surely delight us. Later in the afternoon, transfer to Tarrafal where we will spend the next two nights. Overnight in Mar Tranquilidade or similar (B/L/D)

Day 5 Tarrafal - boatride along the coast (2h)
Tarrafal is purely relaxing - if it is for some days or for some weeks one will enjoy. This is thanks to ist welcoming population, the huge black sandy bay and all the surprises that nature gives us - for example the turtles that lay their eggs on the beach in the summer or the wales that pass by there when migrating, the tunafish, the dolphins and the birds - Tarrafal will seduce us. Today a fisherman will take us aboard of his boat to discover the coastline and the marine diversity. We can even fish in the traditional capeverdean way if we like. Day 6
After having shamelessly relaxed on the beach of Tarrafal during the morning we will go back to Mindelo and to what can be called civilisation. During the crossing, let's keep our eyes open and if we are lucky we may see dolphins or maybe flying fishes. Overnight in the historical centre in Kira's Boutique Hotel or similar (B/-/-).

Day 7
A full day off-road safari in São Vicente. This excursion brings us through stunning nature along the northern and the southern coast of the island. We will cross the only agricultural valley the island has to offer until a spot where it is possible to see the neighbouring uninhabited islands Santa Luzia, Razo and Branco. A small visit in a fishing village to admire the wooden boats they use for their work before heading to the Monte Verde. This day will give us a different view over São Vicente which not many have seen. Overnight in the historical centre in Kira's Boutique Hotel or similar (B/L/-).

Day 8
Oh oh oh - this is moment that we did not want to think of since the moment we set our feet on Capeverdean soil - the one where we have to pack our bags. Luckily there are two objective reason that will console us. The first one is that Cape Verde offers so many possibilities that we already have to start planning our next holiday to discover the archipelago. And the second is that a bottle of peanut- or tamarind pontche is a perfect remedy for nostalgia as we say here - but only if it is well and carefully packed into your luggage.
